Oxygenating pond plants are the hard workers of a healthy pond. Growing mostly under or at the water surface, they release oxygen during the day, take up the excess nutrients that algae feed on, and give fish and tadpoles somewhere to hide and graze.
If your pond keeps turning green, adding more oxygenators is one of the simplest, most natural steps you can take.
Our oxygenating plants
Our range includes Upright Water Milfoil, Red Dragonfly Milfoil, Pink Rotala, Water Hyssop, Water Wisteria, Needle Leaf Ludwigia and Brahmi. Not sure where to start? Our Oxygenator Starter Pack gives you a mix of plants in one go.
How many do I need?
We recommend three oxygenating plants for every square metre of pond surface – part of our 3-2-1 rule for a balanced pond. Our Pond Plant Calculator will work it out for you.
Planting tips
Plant oxygenators in baskets of heavy aquatic soil and place them on a shelf or the pond floor where they get good light. Trim them regularly in the warmer months to keep them bushy and stop them taking over.
