Australian Native Pond Plants

Australian native pond plants are naturally suited to our climate and support local wildlife in a way few imported plants can. They're a great choice for frog ponds, wildlife gardens and anyone who wants a pond that looks at home in the Australian landscape.

Native plants are adapted to local conditions, so once established they're generally hardy and low maintenance. They also provide food, shelter and breeding spots for native frogs, insects, dragonflies and birds.

Our native range

Choose from rushes and sedges like Bare Twig Rush, Knobby Club Rush, Grey Rush, Tassel Cord Rush and Frog Grass for the edges, and floating-leaved plants like Nardoo, Running Marsh Flower and native Marshworts (Nymphoides) for the water surface. Water Ribbon, River Buttercup, Swamp Goodenia, Selliera and Water Grass add flowers and soft groundcover, while Upright Water Milfoil helps keep the water clear.

Getting started
