Beneficial Bacteria for Ponds

Beneficial bacteria are the clean-up crew in a healthy pond. They break down fish waste, uneaten food and the sludge that builds up on the bottom, and they help convert harmful ammonia into less harmful compounds. Adding them gives your pond a natural boost.

When to use beneficial bacteria

When setting up a new pond or filter, to help it establish.
After cleaning your filter or doing a big water change.

Regularly, to keep sludge and nutrient levels down.

Bacteria work best with good filtration and plenty of oxygen. If chlorinated tap water goes in, treat it with a water conditioner first so it doesn't kill the bacteria.
