Tap water can be harmful to pond fish and frogs. Our water conditioners and pH treatments make top-ups safe and help keep your water chemistry where it should be.

What's in the range

API Tap Water Conditioner – neutralises chlorine and chloramine in town water. Use it every time you fill or top up with tap water.
API Pond pH Down – lowers pH when it's too high.
API Aquarium Salt – used by fish keepers to support fish during stress and recovery.

Why condition tap water?

Town water is treated with chlorine or chloramine to make it safe to drink, but these are toxic to fish, frogs and the beneficial bacteria in your filter. A dechlorinator makes tap water pond-safe in seconds. Rainwater doesn't need treating, which makes a rainwater tank a great source for top-ups.

Test before you treat

Before adjusting pH, test your water with a pond test kit so you know where you're starting from. Make changes gradually, as sudden swings stress fish. If you use salt, check it's suitable for your plants, as many pond plants don't tolerate it.
