Filtering Pond Plants

Want clearer water without relying only on equipment? Our filtering pond plants are fast-growing plants with busy root systems that take up the excess nutrients algae feed on, naturally helping to keep your pond clean.

How plants filter your pond

Fish waste and decaying leaves release nutrients into the water. Left unchecked, those nutrients feed algae and turn the water green. Filtering plants absorb them as they grow, and their roots give beneficial bacteria a place to live and break down waste.

Our filtering plants

Our range includes Brahmi, Creeping Jenny, Water Iris, Lebanese Cress, Gotu Kola, Kangkong and the water mints, along with rushes like Bare Twig Rush, Golden Striped Rush and Grey Rush, and Red Dragonfly Milfoil.

Using filtering plants

Plant generously in baskets around the edges of your pond, or use them in a bog filter: a shallow, planted bed that your pond water flows through. They work well on their own in small ponds, or alongside a mechanical filter in larger or heavily stocked ponds.
