Although traditionally water plants are seen as ornamental there are many varieties of edible water plants as well and these grow in everything from large ponds to small container water gardens on a balcony. You probably don’t realise it but If you have had a stir fry or a salad at an Asian restaurant then it’s likely you have already eaten dishes that contain edible water plants. These plants include Water Chestnuts, Taro and Water Spinach. There are also edible plants of Australia that grow in ponds including Brahmi and Nardoo.
