Pogostemon helferi is a great planted aquarium specimen with small compact foliage making it ideal as a carpeting plant that is fairly easy to grow as long as it receives regular fertilisation. Although it is used primarily as a carpeting plant, it can reach up to 8cm in height although reaching foliage is an indicator of inadequate lighting whilst correct light levels will encourage the desired short compact growth. The addition of CO2 further assists in accelerating the growth rate as will the use of a specific planted aquarium substrate. Once established it can be propagated via cuttings from the mother plant. Like all tissue culture plants, the nutrient should be rinsed off prior to planting.
