A native of South Africa, Water Garlic can reach 30cm in size and has a light green to grey strappy foliage, and produces a small purple flower. Water Celery (Berela erecta) is an excellent addition to any edible water garden. Both the leaves and stems can be eaten. It has a very strong celery flavour so it's a good addition to any green summer salad.

Lebanese Cress Aethionema Cordifolium also known as Lebanese water cress can reduce algae growth in ponds due to rapid growth and surface cover.  The leaves from this edible fern-like water plant make a tasty garnish in any salad.

Lebanese cress has many health benefits. The leaves of this pond plant are a good source of protein with vitamins A, B, C, iron, calcium, phosphorous and potassium.

Fine leaf water mint Mentha cevina has many health benefits. It can be effective in relieving digestive problems such as upset stomach, bad breath (can be used as a mouthwash) and indigestion.

The leaves can be added to drinks, tea and salads to add a wonderful summer flavour. They have a strong punchy flavour and go well in Asian salads.

Like all mints, fine leaf water mint is a good source of vitamin C when served fresh. It also contains vitamin A.

A variegated variety of water parsley. The cooler the climate the stronger the pink hue in the foliage. Rainbow water parsley adds great flavour and colour when added to salads! This pond plant rich in many vitamins, particularly vitamin K, which is needed for blood clotting and bone health. It's a great source of vitamins A and C (supports immune health).

Parsley is particularly rich in flavonoid antioxidants and vitamin C, which reduce oxidative stress in your body and may lower your risk of certain cancers.

Brahmi Is known as the 'Memory Herb' for its potential cognitive and medicinal benefits. This Australian native pond plant is easy to grow and makes an excellent spreading plant. It will also mat out over the top of the pond and provide cover and shelter for fish and tadpoles. 

Research has also shown that Brahmi has neuroprotective properties, meaning it helps protect the brain from damage caused by oxidative stress and inflammation. A study published in the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics demonstrated that Brahmi extract reduced oxidative stress and increased antioxidant enzyme activity in the brains of rats. Water celery is an essential plant for your kitchen garden, water celery is a perrenial pond plant. Water celery grows in full sun to part shade & is submersible to a depth of 2cm. Water hyssop (Bacopa caroliniana) is part of the pond plant family known as Plantaginaceae. Water hyssop is easy to identify from other members of the genus as it produces a small blue flower that smells of lemon when crushed and as a result of this it also goes by the name Lemon Hyssop. When it comes to pond plants,

Water Hyssop could be considered an all-rounder.  It produces pleasant-looking green foliage, a scented blue flower can grow at a range of different depths so it is a useful bog plant, floating plant, and oxygenator when grown completely submerged.

 Water Hyssop is also a useful plant for stripping nutrients from pond water. Nutrients including nitrates and phosphates are the major cause of algae in a pond.  So, if you want to get rid of algae, then Water Hyssop is a water plant that you must have. When used in conjunction with our floating ring, Water Hyssop will trail its roots and leaves down into the water which provides cover for fish and tadpoles.

Although referred to as Water Iris, there are five different species of this genus  Iris hexagona, Iris nelsonii, Iris giganticaerulea, Iris brevicaulis and Iris fulva, all of which originate from the United States in the swamps of Louisiana. Many of the new and modern colours have been developed by horticulturalists through selective breeding. Water Iris .

In a water garden, Iris provides height and definition and although they only flower once a year, it’s well worth the wait.  Frogs love Water Iris in a water garden, as they provide shelter from predators in the pond. They can easily be propagated via division and depending on the size of the pot will need dividing on a yearly basis.

Water parsley is rich in vitamins A, C & K. It's rich in antioxidants, flavonoids & carotenoids. Used in salads & as a garnish, don't leave this super food on the side of your plate!

Apigenin, a flavonoid, is found in numerous vegetables and herbal spices such as parsley, celery, basil, chamomile, cilantro, and oregano. Extensive research has demonstrated that plant flavonoids, including apigenin, play a significant role in reducing the risk of cancer development and have been the subject of widespread investigation for their potential in chemoprevention.

Rich in antioxidants, flavonoids, carotenoids, ascorbic acid, and tocopherol, water parsley can be used to make a herbal tea using either fresh or dried leaves.

Running Marsh Flower, also known as Golden Marsh, is a great native plant that is well suited to both small and large water gardens. Its shiny green leaves give it the appearance of a small water lily. It produces a yellow flower spike from October through to March. Running Marsh Flower can be submersed to a depth of 5cm but will also grow well in the floating plant ring supplied with all of our plants where it spreads out providing cover for fish and tadpoles. Villarsia reniformis is suitable for boggy or marginal areas of your pond.

Chocolate water mint is a hardy herb that is a hybrid cultivar of a peppermint plant with a citrus mint plant. It was further developed to produce chocolate overtones.

For some the chocolate taste is subtle. Even so, this unusual variety of mint is worthy of a place in your edible water garden.

Hairy Nardoo Marsilea Drummondii is a classic Australian native water plant. Hairy Nardoo produces a clover like soft furry leaf that closes at night or on overcast days. Leaves when fully submersed will float on the surface of the water or it will produce a firm upright stem when grown in shallow water. Near the base of the stem, it produces a small edible node.

Nardoo Marsilea Angustifolia should be a staple of any native water garden. It is characterised by its green four-leaf clover appearance. The leaves will float on the surface of a pond when grown submersed, but it will also thrive near the edge of a pond in wet or boggy soil where the leaves will stand upright. It will grow in both full sun or shade so it is a great all-rounder for any water garden. The seed-like spore cases of Nardoo known as sporocarps can be eaten as a porridge or dried and ground up and made into a dough.

Makes an ideal feature pond plant that features spotted green leaves and striking white flowers with green tips from late winter through to early summer. Best suited to a warmer climate.

Our stunning Goddess Lily Sparkles (Zantedeschia), is a realtively hardy water plant, originating in South Africa. It can be grown in part shade and has the most unusual foliage of thick deep green with a sprinkling of white sparkles. It has a white trumpet like flower from late winter through to early summer.

Maintain the plant by removing spent leaves, keeping water toppped up and fertilise. Feed monthly from spring using the Pond Plantz time release fertilizer tablet by inserting the tablet 5-10cm under the surface of the soil.

Best suited to a warmer climate, or grown in a protected pond.

Can be pruned to maintain size by removing larger leaves and trimming the roots back.
