Spiralis). Corkscrew Rush takes its name from its interesting corkscrew-like foliage that is dark green in colour. The foliage will both spill to a radius of 50cm and some will stay upright to a height of 60cm. It is a slow-growing plant, that loves the heat so it is great for water gardens that have full sun. It is very versatile and can be planted in boggy conditions near the edge of the pond and is well suited to the floating plant ring that comes with all of the plants. Alternatively, Cork Screw Rush can be submersed to a depth of 2cm in the shallows of your water garden.
Cork Screw Rush can be frost tender so make sure it is protected in winter, place it in a cover pot, and bring it inside for winter. It will actually thrive indoors in a sunny spot on the window sill.

When you think of pond plants, most people think of water lilies and really no water garden is complete without at least one. Hardy Water Lilies are a tuber-type water plant that originates in Europe.
The leaves can come in various sizes, some are classic green whilst others are patterned. Hardy-type water lilies are ideal for all climates growing rapidly in the warmer months before dying down over winter.
They flower from late spring and into summer and grow rapidly during this period, so they require regular monthly fertilising. To flower water lilies require at least 5 hours of sunlight per day.
Water lilies require still water around them to thrive and splashing water may even bruise and damage the leaves of the plant. They should be potted in a loamy mix of soil and this soil type is present in many older home gardens. Loamy soil should hold its shape when wet and they will even grow in clay-type soils as well. They are best planted into a pot with a fine layer of gravel over the top to prevent the soil from washing out until the plant is established. To get continued flowering from water lilies on your pond, they should be divided and repotted on an annual basis.
*This water lily starter kit provides a mix of water lily corms (not potted) that could include, pink, white, yellows, and orange.

A Glimpse into History:
Cyperus papyrus, commonly known as papyrus or King Tut, has a rich and fascinating history dating back thousands of years. Native to the Nile Delta in Egypt and parts of Africa, this iconic plant was once abundant along the banks of the Nile River. Ancient Egyptians revered it not only for its elegant beauty but also for its incredible versatility. Most famously, papyrus was used to create the world’s first form of durable paper-like material—long before modern paper was invented. It was also used in boat-making, medicine, mats, ropes, and even sandals. Symbolic of life and regeneration, papyrus featured prominently in Egyptian art and religious texts. Today, while its traditional uses have faded, King Tut remains a living link to ancient civilizations and continues to grace modern ponds with timeless grandeur.
