This striking plant, also known as Frog mint or water pepper, it is a popular choice for ponds of all sizes. Its heart-shaped leaves, adorned with lush green foliage contrasting with a burgundy stem.
Over summer this pond plant produces a fragrant small white flowers on short spikes with a yellow centre.
The roots, stems, and leaves of the Houttuynia plant are edible. The roots can be cooked as a vegetable, the stems can be eaten raw, and the leaves can be enjoyed in salads or brewed into tea.
Swamp Pepper is ideal for use with our floating rings, the Houttuynia's foliage prefers to be above the water's surface rather than submerged.
In cool regions, Swamp pepper can die back in winter and reimerge in spring. Our fertiliser tablets can help encourage growth as the weather warms.
