OASE Kidney Plant Basket

$11.00

Give your aquatic plants the perfect home with the OASE Plant Basket Oval 45, a long, narrow pond plant basket designed for planting aquatic and marginal pond plants while keeping their roots contained.

Measuring 45cm long × 18cm wide × 15cm high with an approximately 12-litre capacity, this black plastic plant basket has a distinctive oval or kidney-shaped design that works particularly well along pond edges, in curved areas and where a long, narrow planting basket is more practical than a traditional square or round basket.

Made from robust, rot-resistant plastic, the OASE Plant Basket Oval 45 is designed for long-term use in the pond. Its finely perforated sides and base allow water and nutrients to move freely through the basket, supporting healthy aquatic plant growth while keeping larger, more aggressive roots contained.

Why Use a Pond Plant Basket?

Planting aquatic plants into a basket makes it much easier to control where they grow in your pond. The basket keeps the aquatic soil and plant contained, while allowing water to circulate through the root zone.

The fine openings allow smaller roots to grow through the basket while helping restrict thicker root growth. This can help protect your pond liner from aggressive roots and makes established plants easier to lift, divide, reposition or prepare for winter.

Ideal for Aquatic & Marginal Pond Plants

The OASE Oval 45 is particularly useful for medium-depth and deeper pond planting where you need a larger planting area without taking up excessive width.

Its elongated shape makes it ideal for planting along pond edges or positioning several plants in a row.

It can be used for a wide range of aquatic plants, including suitable marginal and deeper-water pond plants, depending on the plant's individual planting-depth requirements.

Key Features

45cm oval/kidney-shaped pond plant basket
Dimensions: 45 × 18 × 15cm
Approximate capacity: 12 litres
Made from robust, rot-resistant plastic
Fine perforations throughout the sides and base
Allows essential water and nutrient exchange
Helps contain larger and more aggressive roots
Protects pond liners from uncontrolled root growth
Makes aquatic plants easier to remove, divide and reposition
Long, narrow design is ideal for pond edges and curved areas
Suitable for aquatic plants in medium and deeper water

Designed for Healthy Plant Growth

The perforated design of the OASE Plant Basket Oval 45 allows water and nutrients to circulate through the planting medium. This provides aquatic plant roots with access to the surrounding pond water while keeping the majority of the planting medium contained within the basket.

For best results, use a suitable aquatic planting soil and follow the planting-depth requirements of your chosen pond plant.

Easy Pond Plant Maintenance

One of the major advantages of planting aquatic plants in baskets is easier maintenance. Rather than allowing plants to establish directly into the pond, the basket keeps the root system contained and makes it easier to lift the plant when it needs dividing, repotting or repositioning.

This is particularly useful for pond owners who want to keep their water garden neat and their plants under control.

How to Choose the Perfect Fountain for Your Pond

A fountain can be a beautiful and functional addition to any pond, providing aeration and adding visual interest. Fountains add a little more movement, sound and life to your pond? A fountain can transform your water garden, creating gentle ripples, attracting birds and adding a beautiful focal point. And with solar-powered options now available, you don’t always need complicated installation or a power connection to enjoy the benefits of flowing water. From compact floating fountains to larger decorative displays, there’s a fountain to suit almost every pond. However, choosing the right fountain for your pond can be a daunting task. Factors such as pond size, style, and budget all come into play. This guide will help you navigate the options and select the perfect fountain for your needs. Determine the size and depth of your pond. Before choosing a fountain, it’s important to determine the size and depth of your pond. This will help you select a fountain that is appropriately sized and will provide adequate aeration. Measure the length and width of your pond, as well as the depth at the deepest point. This information will help you determine the appropriate fountain size and spray pattern. Keep in mind that a fountain that is too small for your pond may not provide adequate aeration, while a fountain that is too large may be overpowering and cause excessive splashing. Use our pond calculator to find out the volume. Consider the style and design of your pond. When choosing a fountain for your pond, it’s important to consider the style and design of your pond. A fountain should complement the overall aesthetic of your pond and not detract from it. For example, if you have a natural-looking pond with rocks and plants, a fountain with a modern, geometric design may not be the best choice. Instead, opt for a fountain with a more organic shape and design. On the other hand, if you have a formal, symmetrical pond, a fountain with a more structured and geometric design may be a better fit. Decide on the type of fountain you want. Before choosing a fountain for your pond, it’s important to decide on the type of fountain you want. Do you want a fountain that shoots water high into the air, creating a dramatic display? Or do you prefer a more subtle fountain that creates a gentle, soothing flow of water? There are many different types of fountains to choose from, including tiered fountains, spouting fountains, and bubbler fountains. Many also combine filtration and will include a ultra violet clarification system. The OASE Filtral UVC is an ideal multi-functional solution designed for smaller-sized ponds. This compact Filter and Clarifier is effortless to install and can be plugged in and used right out of the box. The Filtral is equipped with two types of filter-sponges, bio-surface elements, and ceramics, ensuring both mechanical and biological cleaning of your pond, while the UVC power guarantees clear and healthy water. Additionally, practical clips surrounding the Filtral housing facilitate easy cleaning without the need to dismantle the nozzle fixture. The package includes three nozzle attachments, each creating a different fountain effect, giving you the freedom to choose your preferred style. Also, a telescopic extension is included, which helps to adjust the nozzle to the pond's surface, and a T-piece for operating sprouts and watercourses. Moreover, this product allows for individual flow rate and fountain height adjustment and can be submersed installed without affecting the pond's attractive appearance. Consider the size and style of your pond, as well as your personal preferences, when deciding on the type of fountain to choose. Add Movement with a Solar Floating Fountain If you’re looking for a simple way to add movement and the gentle sound of flowing water to your pond, the Bioscape Pond Solar Floating Fountain is worth considering. Measuring just 160mm in diameter, this compact fountain is designed to float on the surface of your pond and is powered by sunshine, so there’s no need for power cords or complicated installation. With seven spray patterns to choose from, you can create anything from a gentle bubbling effect to a more decorative spray. The included net bag and fishing line also allow you to anchor the fountain in your preferred position, making it suitable for small to medium size water bowls and birdbaths. Simply add some pebbles to the net bag, select the appropriate line length for your pond depth and attach it to the underside of the fountain. It’s an easy way to introduce a little more life and interest to your water garden. Take a look at our range of other solar pumps here. Look for features like adjustable height and spray patterns. When choosing a fountain for your pond, it’s important to look for features that allow you to customize the height and spray pattern of the water. This will give you more control over the look and feel of your fountain, and allow you to adjust it to suit your preferences. Some fountains come with adjustable nozzles that allow you to change the height and shape of the water spray, while others have interchangeable heads that can be swapped out to create different spray patterns. The Pond One Pondmaster Fountain Pump is the perfect choice for smaller container water gardens or small ponds. The Pond One Pondmaster 1800 is a versatile device that can be used both indoors and outdoors. It is most effective for the following purposes: Fountains and statues Small ornaments and wall fountains Small ponds (less than 750 litres) Hydroponic systems Irrigation systems The Pondmaster 1800 comes with a variety of useful features, including three fountain head sets, a pre-filter sponge, adjustable flow control, and fountain head extensions. Consider these features when selecting a fountain for your pond to ensure that you get the perfect look and feel for your space. Consider the maintenance and energy requirements of the fountain. Before choosing a fountain for your pond, it’s important to consider the maintenance and energy requirements. Some fountains require more maintenance than others, such as those with intricate designs or multiple moving parts. Additionally, some fountains may require more energy to operate, which can increase your electricity bill. Be sure to read the product specifications and reviews to get an idea of the maintenance and energy requirements before making your purchase. This will help you choose a fountain that fits your budget and lifestyle. Check the Fountain's Water Flow Rate When selecting a fountain for your pond, it's crucial to take into account both the size and style of your pond. One of the most important factors to consider is the water flow rate of the fountain. If the flow rate is too low, the fountain may not create the desired effect, but if it's too high, it can lead to excessive splashing and water waste. Our OASE or Pond One pumps and filters provides a range of fountains with varying water flow rates, so it's important to choose one that is appropriate for your specific needs and preferences. © weknowwatergardens 2026

Ultra violet clarifiers have revolutionised pond maintenance by effectively eliminating harmful bacteria, algae, and other unwanted impurities. In this comprehensive guide, we'll dive deep into the world of ultra violet clarifiers, exploring how they work, their benefits, and how to choose the right one for your specific needs. We'll also provide expert tips and insights on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, ensuring that you have all the knowledge and tools necessary to keep your pond crystal clear and thriving. Whether you're a seasoned pond enthusiast or just starting out, this guide will equip you with the information you need to make informed decisions and create a visually stunning and healthy environment for your aquatic friends. So, let's embark on this journey together and unlock the secrets to achieving pond perfection with ultra violet clarifiers! How do ultra violet clarifiers work? Ultra violet clarifiers or UVC's are a powerful tool in maintaining the health and beauty of your pond. These devices utilise ultraviolet light to eliminate harmful bacteria, algae, and other impurities, ensuring that your pond water remains clear and balanced. The process begins with the water passing through a quartz sleeve that houses a UV lamp. As the water flows past the lamp, the UV light penetrates the cells of the microorganisms, rendering them unable to reproduce. This effectively controls their population, preventing blooms and maintaining a healthy ecosystem. The clarified water then returns to the pond, leaving behind a crystal-clear environment for your aquatic plants and fish to thrive. There are a few key factors to consider when choosing an ultra violet clarifier for your pond. First, you'll need to determine the appropriate size for your specific needs. The size of the clarifier is usually measured in watts, with larger ponds requiring higher wattage units. Additionally, you'll want to consider the flow rate of your pond's filtration system. It's important to choose a clarifier that can handle the flow rate to ensure optimal effectiveness. Finally, look for clarifiers that offer features such as indicator lights or alarms to alert you when the UV lamp needs to be replaced. These features can help simplify maintenance and ensure that your clarifier is always operating at its best. In terms of installation, ultra violet clarifiers are typically installed after the pond's mechanical and biological filtration systems. This allows the water to be pre-filtered before entering the clarifier, maximising its efficiency. Most clarifiers can be easily integrated into existing pond setups, either in-line or as a separate unit. When installing, make sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions and consider consulting with a professional if you're unsure. Regular maintenance is also essential to keep your clarifier running smoothly. This includes cleaning the quartz sleeve and replacing the UV lamp according to the manufacturer's recommendations. By following these installation and maintenance practices, you can ensure that your ultra violet clarifier continues to provide optimal performance and keep your pond water crystal clear. Benefits of using ultra violet clarifiers in ponds Using ultra violet clarifiers in your pond offers a range of benefits that contribute to the overall health and beauty of the ecosystem. One of the primary advantages is the control of harmful bacteria and algae. Excessive bacterial growth can lead to imbalances in the pond's ecosystem, causing issues such as foul odors, poor water clarity, and even fish health problems. By effectively eliminating these microorganisms, ultra violet clarifiers help maintain a healthy environment for your pond inhabitants. Another significant benefit is the prevention of algae blooms. Algae blooms are a common problem in ponds, and they can quickly turn the water green and unsightly. These blooms not only detract from the visual appeal of the pond but can also deplete oxygen levels, leading to stress or even death for fish and other aquatic life. Ultra violet clarifiers disrupt the reproductive cycle of algae, preventing blooms from occurring and keeping your pond water clear and balanced. In addition to controlling bacteria and algae, ultra violet clarifiers also contribute to water clarity. The UV light helps break down organic matter that can cloud the water, resulting in a pristine and visually stunning pond. This enhanced clarity allows you to fully appreciate the beauty of your aquatic plants and fish, creating a more enjoyable and serene environment. Furthermore, using ultra violet clarifiers can reduce the need for chemical treatments in your pond. Many pond owners resort to using chemicals to control algae and bacteria, but these treatments can have negative effects on the overall ecosystem. By utilising a clarifier, you can minimise the reliance on chemicals, creating a more natural and eco-friendly pond. Overall, the benefits of using ultra violet clarifiers in ponds are numerous. From the control of harmful bacteria and algae to improved water clarity and reduced reliance on chemicals, these devices contribute to the overall health and beauty of your aquatic oasis. Factors to consider before purchasing an ultra violet clarifier Before purchasing an ultra violet clarifier for your pond, there are several important factors to consider. These factors will help ensure that you select the right clarifier for your specific needs, maximizing its effectiveness and providing long-term satisfaction. The first factor to consider is the size of your pond. Ultra violet clarifiers come in various sizes, typically measured in watts. It's crucial to choose a clarifier that matches the size of your pond to ensure optimal performance. Using an undersized clarifier can result in ineffective treatment, while an oversized clarifier may lead to unnecessary energy consumption. Next, you'll need to evaluate the flow rate of your pond's filtration system. The flow rate is measured in liters per hour (LPH) and represents the volume of water passing through the clarifier. It's essential to choose a clarifier that can handle the flow rate of your filtration system to ensure that the water is exposed to the UV light for a sufficient amount of time. If the flow rate is too high, the water may pass through the clarifier too quickly, reducing its effectiveness. Another factor to consider is the clarifier's durability and quality. Look for clarifiers made from high-quality materials that are designed to withstand outdoor conditions. The clarifier should be water-resistant and have a sturdy construction to ensure longevity and reliable performance. Additionally, pay attention to the clarifier's features and ease of use. Some clarifiers include features such as indicator lights or alarms that alert you when the UV lamp needs to be replaced. These features can simplify maintenance and ensure that your clarifier is always operating at its best. Consider your preferences and requirements when evaluating the available features. Lastly, it's important to consider your budget. Ultra violet clarifiers come in a range of price points, so it's essential to establish a budget and stick to it. While it's tempting to opt for the cheapest option, investing in a high-quality clarifier may save you money in the long run, as it will likely require less maintenance and have a longer lifespan. By considering these factors before purchasing an ultra violet clarifier, you can make an informed decision and choose a device that meets your specific pond needs, ensuring optimal performance and long-term satisfaction. Pond One ClearTec ultra violet clarifiers will effectively clear and eliminate green water in fish ponds. Spare parts afre available and we recommend replacing the UV bulb every 12 months to ensure effectivness. Installation and maintenance of ultra violet clarifiers Installing and maintaining an ultra violet clarifier is a crucial part of ensuring its effectiveness and longevity. Proper installation will maximize the clarifier's performance, while regular maintenance will keep it running smoothly and efficiently. When it comes to installation, it's important to follow the manufacturer's instructions and recommendations. Each clarifier may have specific requirements, so familiarise yourself with the guidelines provided. In general, ultra violet clarifiers are installed after the pond's mechanical and biological filtration systems. This allows the water to be pre-filtered before entering the clarifier, maximizing its efficiency. Most clarifiers can be easily integrated into existing pond setups, either in-line or as a separate unit. If you're unsure about the installation process, consider consulting with a professional or contacting the manufacturer for assistance. Once your clarifier is installed, regular maintenance is essential to ensure optimal performance. One of the key maintenance tasks is cleaning the quartz sleeve. The quartz sleeve is a transparent tube that surrounds the UV lamp and protects it from water contact. Over time, the sleeve may accumulate mineral deposits and organic matter, reducing the effectiveness of the UV light. To clean the quartz sleeve, follow the manufacturer's instructions, which may include using a soft brush or a specialised cleaning solution. Regularly inspect the sleeve and clean it as needed to maintain optimal performance. Another important maintenance task is replacing the UV lamp. The UV lamp is the core component of the clarifier, and its effectiveness diminishes over time. Manufacturers typically provide guidelines on when to replace the lamp, which is usually based on the number of hours of operation. Failure to replace the lamp as recommended can result in reduced performance and ineffective treatment. Make sure to keep track of the lamp's usage and replace it according to the manufacturer's recommendations. Additionally, it's important to regularly monitor the clarifier's performance. Look out for any changes in water clarity or signs of bacterial or algae growth. If you notice any issues, such as reduced effectiveness or unusual behavior, consult the manufacturer's troubleshooting guide or contact customer support for assistance. As a general rule, a lamp will only be effective for a 12 month period. Even it if it is still emitting light after this time, the spectrum will be in correct. and it will be ineffective.Being proactive in identifying and addressing problems will help maintain a healthy and clear pond environment. By following the manufacturer's instructions for installation and maintenance, you can ensure that your ultra violet clarifier operates at its best, providing optimal performance and contributing to a visually stunning and healthy pond environment. Common misconceptions about ultra violet clarifiers Despite their effectiveness in maintaining pond health and beauty, there are several common misconceptions about ultra violet clarifiers. These misconceptions can lead to misunderstandings about the devices' capabilities and may prevent pond owners from fully leveraging their benefits. Let's debunk some of these misconceptions and set the record straight. One common misconception is that ultra violet clarifiers are harmful to aquatic life. While it's true that UV light can be harmful to certain organisms, ultra violet clarifiers are specifically designed to be safe for fish and other aquatic inhabitants. The UV lamp used in these clarifiers is housed inside a quartz sleeve so it only comes into direct contact with the free floating algae and bacteria, not the plants or the fish. inhabitants. Another misconception is that ultra violet clarifiers are only necessary for large ponds or heavily stocked ponds. While it's true that larger ponds may require higher wattage clarifiers to ensure optimal treatment, ultra violet clarifiers can benefit ponds of all sizes. Even small ponds can experience issues with bacteria, algae, and water clarity, and a properly sized clarifier can help address these problems. Whether your pond is large or small, a clarifier can contribute to a healthier and more visually appealing environment. Some pond owners believe that ultra violet clarifiers eliminate the need for mechanical and biological filtration systems. While ultra violet clarifiers are a valuable addition to any pond maintenance system, they should not replace other filtration methods. Mechanical and biological filtration work in conjunction with the clarifier to ensure comprehensive water treatment. Mechanical filtration removes larger debris, while biological filtration provides a home for beneficial bacteria that help break down organic waste. The combination of these systems with an ultra violet clarifier creates a balanced and effective pond maintenance approach. Lastly, some people believe that ultra violet clarifiers require a significant amount of electricity to operate. While it's true that clarifiers require electricity to power the UV lamp, they are designed to be energy-efficient. Modern clarifiers use advanced technology to maximise their effectiveness while minimising energy consumption. Additionally, the cost of operating a clarifier is relatively low compared to the benefits it provides in terms of water clarity and overall pond health. When considering the energy consumption, remember that the long-term benefits outweigh the minimal electricity usage. By dispelling these common misconceptions, we can better understand the capabilities and benefits of ultra violet clarifiers. These devices are safe, effective, and suitable for ponds of all sizes, making them an invaluable tool for maintaining a healthy and visually stunning pond environment. An important thing to note about ultra violet clarifiers is that they will only kill free floating algae that causes cloudiness or discoloration of the water. Algae will still grow on the sides and bottom of the pond. Alternative pond health and clarifying solutions While ultra violet clarifiers are highly effective in enhancing pond health and water quality, there are alternative solutions that can be used in conjunction with or as an alternative to these devices. These solutions provide additional options for pond owners looking to maintain a pristine and visually stunning pond environment. One alternative solution is the use of beneficial bacteria products such as API Pond Accuclear . Thius product helps to bind fine particles together and have them settle on the bottom of the pond where they can be removed using a pond vacuum cleaner. Beneficial bacteria play a crucial role in maintaining a balanced ecosystem by breaking down organic waste, reducing nutrient levels, and preventing the build-up of harmful bacteria. Adding beneficial bacteria products to your pond can help improve water quality, reduce algae blooms, and enhance overall pond health. These products are available in liquid form and can be easily added to the pond according to the manufacturer's instructions. © weknowwatergardens 2025
