King Tut (Cyperus papyrus) is a striking, tall aquatic sedge that makes a bold statement in any water garden. Its vibrant green stems emerge gracefully from the water, crowned with eye-catching clusters of fine, feathery, thread-like foliage. While this pond plant is a dwarf form of the Giant Papyrus, it can spread to a height of between 1-2 m.

In summer, green-brown flowers are followed by small, nut-like fruits. Ideal as a dramatic architectural feature in large ponds, water features, or generous tubs, King Tut adds both height and elegance to aquatic landscapes.

A Glimpse into History:

Cyperus papyrus, commonly known as papyrus or King Tut, has a rich and fascinating history dating back thousands of years. Native to the Nile Delta in Egypt and parts of Africa, this iconic plant was once abundant along the banks of the Nile River. Ancient Egyptians revered it not only for its elegant beauty but also for its incredible versatility. Most famously, papyrus was used to create the world’s first form of durable paper-like material—long before modern paper was invented. It was also used in boat-making, medicine, mats, ropes, and even sandals. Symbolic of life and regeneration, papyrus featured prominently in Egyptian art and religious texts. Today, while its traditional uses have faded, King Tut remains a living link to ancient civilizations and continues to grace modern ponds with timeless grandeur.
