Why Use a Check Valve?
If the power goes out or your air pump is switched off, water can travel back through the airline tubing and into the pump. This can damage the pump, create an electrical hazard, and slowly drain water out of your aquarium or pond. A check valve prevents this by letting air travel in one direction only.
Fit the valve with the arrow (or the coloured side) facing away from the pump, towards the water. Replace it if you notice air flow dropping or water getting past it.
Always check the size of your airline tubing before purchasing to make sure it's compatible.
